The Polar Pioneer was built in the famed shipyards of Finland in 1986 for the Polar Research. In 1994, she started her career as a passenger ship and has been cruising the Arctic waters of Svalbard and Antarctica for years. We first sailed aboard back in 1995 and in 2000, we led the IMAX film teams to retrace Shackleton’s epic.
This acclaimed expedition ship is loved by many especially our guides. With such a small group of guests onboard, it feels like travelling on a private yacht offering an entirely different experience and perspective to that of a larger and more impersonal vessels.
The atmosphere on board is relaxed and informal. The ship is equipped with a fleet of landing boats for cruising the ice and heading ashore. More details can be found in our trip brochure.
