Ecotourism in Antarctica - Science and Conservation
In line with Fathom Expeditions' commitment to conservation of the Antarctic wilderness, we are working in conjunction with the Antarctic Education Program to spearhead a project that brings together science and tourism. Our shipboard research program will encompass data collection relating to global warming issues and ocean food sources. These projects are open to passengers and will provide benefits to clients, scientific institutions, and educational institutions. At present, we are implementing baseline studies to serve as a foundation for data collection.
The Antarctic Education Program was founded in 1999 and is committed to education and awareness of issues relating to the health of the Antarctic ecosystem. They have completed scientific studies across parts of southeastern South Georgia Island and in Antarctica. Today, they are working closely with Fathom Expeditions to develop a comprehensive set of studies that will monitor changes to the Antarctic Peninsula Region and the surrounding oceans.
